Simin Goral, MD

Dr. Goral is a Professor of Medicine in the Renal, Electrolyte and Hypertension Division at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia, USA.

She obtained her medical degree from the University of Istanbul in Turkey and completed her Internal Medicine residency at the same institution. She completed her Nephrology and Transplant fellowships at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Goral is a full-time member of the American Society of Transplantation (AST) as well as a member of the American Society of Nephrology (ASN), European Renal Association-European Dialysis and Transplantation Association (ERA-EDTA) and National Kidney Foundation (NKF). Over the years, she has been quite active in American Society of Transplantation (AST), participating in several Committees, including Renal Accreditation Committee, Women's Health Community of Practice (WHCOP), and Patient Care and Education Committee. She joined the AST Women’s Health Committee in 2002; took part in the 2003 Consensus Conference on Reproductive Issues and Transplantation and became the Co-chair of that Committee in 2004. Each year, she participates in the Budapest Nephrology School sponsored by ISN and ERA-EDTA, teaching international renal fellows and nephrologists. She has published broadly in kidney transplantation arena over the years. Dr. Goral has been the principal investigator and co-investigator in numerous completed and ongoing clinical trials. Her research interests include kidney transplantation (recurrent lupus nephritis after transplantation, sensitization after transplant nephrectomy, BK infection), polycystic kidney disease, and diabetic nephropathy. She is a regular reviewer in several Nephrology and Transplant journals such as American Journal of Transplantation, JASN, CJASN, and Nephrology, Dialysis and Transplantation. She is currently the Director of the Transplant Nephrology Fellowship Program as well as the Director of the Polycystic Kidney Disease Clinic at UPenn.
